Semana Santa in San Pancho - Holy Week 2011

Previous

The families, the friends, the young, the not-so-young, but mostly young people hovering on either side of twenty years old, came to San Pancho to celebrate Easter. They came with tents, tarps, poles, sleeping bags, coolers, chairs, food, surf boards, and more coolers.

The music stage overlooked the Pacific and provided music from area bands from mid-afternoon til the wee hours. And they partied, laughed and enjoyed the expansive beach of this small fishing village. Impromptu taco stands were everywhere. On the beach and on the street approaching the malecon. Even in front of Judith's gift shop.

The crowd was for the most part well-behaved and having a good time and carefully packing away their trash in basura bags. A crowd that was bigger than last year to be sure. But perhaps a different crowd than what we saw three or four years ago, when temporary "homes" with grills and walls made of tarp lined the sidewalk to the south of the Malecon.
